Friday saw Cork's knitters up the ante on who Ireland's finest knitters are and gave Dublin a run for its money at the innocent Big Knit event in Cork. Not even the wind, which knabbed one of our parasols, could stop the knitting once the clacking started. Some fantastic people turned up too as we were joined by some real pros and knitting veterans, as well first timers, who had a great day as 2FMs Rich O'Shea provided music and entertainment.
We were delighted to see Mary and Anne Maire from the Lavendar Yarn knitting group turn up and lend and experienced hand.
They even brought Eoin, their knitting protege who got stuck into a ball of yarn. Who says you can't knit with your feet anyway?
Star crocheter extraordinaire Hilary really blew us away with the hats she made. Kudos to her son Finn who managed to sit through two hours of knitting without a bother.
Thanks again Hilary for these wonderful hats.
And here's Hilary herself showing off a strawberry hat she knitted.
Susan, in the blue, and her sister also showed up to get involved and support the big knit. Susan makes her own quilts so little innocent hats were a doddle for her. She's also trying to get her mother knitting for the innocent Big Knit, and we can't wait to see what she comes up with.
We also had a special appearance from the wonderful and record breaking Lisa Cummins who, managed to become the first Irish person and woman to swim the English Channel to France and back again in just 35 hours with just one seven minute break in France.
She also learned to knit on the spot in Cork, with the help of Siobhan, and added another talent her list.
So, the knitters of Cork really came out and showed their talent and put up some stiff competition to the Dublin knitters at last week's innocent Big Knit event in Dundrum. Next stop is Limerick tomorrow and we can't wait to see what the knitters there have in store for us.
