Round at Fruit Towers over the past few woolly weeks, we’ve noticed a curious phenomenon: while knitting by yourself is a cosy pastime that can be done quietly in front of the telly, if you get a bunch of knitters together suddenly kettles are on, hair is down, secrets are out, and you’re knee-deep in bobble hats. We call it the innocent Law of Social Knitting:
(FUN)= (no. of knitters x quality of biscuits x juiciness of gossip) / dropped stitches
Which basically means, more folk, more fun - as some of you have already found out (see photographic evidence below). So we put our boffins to work on something a bit more useful than coming up with daft mathematical equations, and made our very own Big Knit-In Facebook Tab - basically a one-stop-shop for how to host your own Big Knit-In. There you’ll find out who/how to invite, when/where to have it as well as a load of tips, ideas and downloadable goodies to help your Knit-In get its knit on.
And whether you go for formal or casual , whether you aim for your Knit-In to be the biggest, bobbliest of them all, or you just have a few friends round for a knitters’ natter - send us in your stories, photos and of course your little hats - just like these lovely people below did. The loveliest photos might get some innocent goodies too.
Gerlene (middle) organised a knit-in in her house and was joined by Sheela and Amy.
Audrey Burrowes hosted this knit-in with the wonderful ladies from the Ballincollig knitting group. Except for the summer, they meet every Thursday at the Ballincollig library. From left to right, these lovely ladies are : Joan, Angela, Siobhan, Anne, Valeria, Ann, Audrey, Elisabeth, Madeleine, Anne, and Rosemary.
Bella from the Trinity College Knit Soc organised a knit-in for members. Looks like they had a blast.
