With the innocent Big Knit deadline extended until November 10th, we have even more time for one of our favourite things to do here at fruit towers. Picking hat of the week that is.

This week's knitting sensation is Bernadine from Sutton, Dublin. Apart from looking fabulous, Bernadine's hat was crocheted from a recycled shopping bag which made it eco-friendly as well as lovely. She also knitted a delightful top-hat as modeled in the photo by our very own Ali. All we need now is somebody to knit her a monocle...

Knitting right through to November 10th

 

We’ve been amazed so far by the generosity and talent of Ireland’s knitters and with time ticking away,  we’ve decided to extend the innocent Big Knit’s big deadline so we can get even more people knitting and reach our goal of 80,000 little hats.  We’ve listened to the very useful feedback from the folk sending in their creations, especially those in knitting groups. “Why the hell,” said they, only they were much more polite about it, “are you running a knitting campaign in the summer?”  Turns out, knitting groups don’t meet in the summer, schools that want to contribute aren’t in session, and even the most avid knitter doesn’t like to think about winter woollies when they’re enjoying our annual glimpse of the sun.

Anyway, we’re extending the innocent Big Knit deadline to November 10th - so all of you who’ve mentioned that knitting is more of a long, dark evening kind of thing,  you’ll have cosy autumn and winter nights to break out the knitting needles.  Remember,  Age Action is a great cause , it’s a lot of fun and, as ever, tips and inspiration can be found on innocentdrinks.ie/thebigknit.

Set your faces to awe. It's time again for the innocent Big Knit hat of the week.

This week's winner and knitting legend is Elaine O'Connor from Malahide, Dublin.

She sent us in 59 lovely hats themed, among many other things, after children's stories and songs such as Little Red Riding Hood, Little Miss Muffett, Old McDonald & his farm animals, and a certain red and white jumper wearing guy who likes to hide. You'll have to guess that one.

New kid's smoothies ads on the block

Anybody near a TV recently might have caught a glimpse of our new ads for our kid's smoothies. We’d love to know what you, our wonderful smoothie tasting experts, think of our new ads.

Hat of the week

It's our favourite time of the week again where we get to showcase Ireland's knitting talent and announce another winner of the innocent Big Knit hat of the week.

This weeks winner, knitting teacher Siobhan from Dublin took the prize with chef and pirate themed hats complete with gingham and eye-patch.

Hat of the week

Hat of the week just went of the charts. Here at fruit towers we love going through all the hats we are sent in or are dropped off at our events. We especially love picking the hat of the week which is serious stuff here.

This week's winner, Dolly McGreal, from Killala in Co Mayo, left us in awe and wishing we could create a new competition called "hats of the decade"

Dolly "Knitting Queen" McGreal knitted us some incredible hats with exceptional detail. She even included a full bottle suit/hat which was our favourite here at fruit towers. So, without further ado, here are Dolly's hats.

Hat of the week

It's time again to showcase some of the wonderful knitting talent out there and announce the latest innocent Big Knit hat of the week winner. Maura Gunning, from Drumcondra, teamed up with her neighbour Sr Phil Sinnott and knitted 104 hats which she surprised us with when she dropped them off at our St.Stephens Green event last Thursday.

Here's a selection of the best hats from this pair of knitting extraordinaires that include snakes, owls, frogs and cats.

Plan Bee in action

Back at the beginning of summer we launched Buy One Get One Bee, which meant that every delicious, limited edition Lemons, Honey and Ginger smoothie sold, helped us to help address the problem of Ireland’s disappearing bees.

Well, the campaign created quite a buzz (darn these irresistible bee puns), and last Monday, the Minister for State, Ciarán Cuffe, on innocent’s behalf, presented hives and other bee-quipment to 4 novices from the Federation of Irish Beekeeepers. They’ll be the ones taking care of the 200,000 bees we’re introducing back into the Irish countryside, so we reckoned that providing the latest in beekeeping fashion (netting is very ‘in’) was the least we could do.

25% of Irish hives have been lost over the past 3 years, and fewer bees doesn’t just mean less gentle buzzing in the garden, or more expensive honey. These industrious creatures have uses both poetic (didn’t W. Bee. Yeats write about a “bee-loud glade”? Ah, Leaving Cert English...) and practical - they pollinate almost every fruit and vegetable grown here.  And we’re big fans of fruit ‘n’ veg.

So not only did we want to bring the bees back, we wanted them to have fun stuff to do when they got here. Hence the free packet of wildflower seeds with every bottle of Lemons, Honey and Ginger. Once planted, in gardens, yards or window boxes, the flowers provide the ideal habitat for bees.So big, big thanks for your support, especially to everyone who planted their seeds: you’ve helped make Ireland that bit more bee-autiful.
